Studio One Mixtool polarity vs PHIXER continuous phase for mono-safe low end

Studio One still gives you Mixtool polarity invert (Invert Left / Invert Right), Transform to mono, Mix Engine FX honesty, and small delay align before export. That is the stock first pass. Continuous stereo phase is a different job: leftover L/R fights that still cancel by band after polarity, timing, and Transform mono. This page is the Mixtool comparison. The broader Studio One map is Mix Engine FX / Transform mono / AU-VST3. Cousin DAW angles: Pro Tools Invert Phase / Time Adjuster and Bitwig Studio 5 Utility polarity.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux). Amount / From / To rotate problem bands so mono fold keeps low end without flattening stereo. It is not a replacement for Mixtool polarity invert, Transform to mono, or delay align. Polarity and timing first.

What Studio One Mixtool already does

Mixtool polarity invert

Invert Left / Invert Right is a 180° flip on one path (or one channel). First fix for dual-mic, DI+amp, or a parallel bus that fights the dry path. If body returns immediately, stop. You do not need spectral rotation.

Transform to mono / Master mono fold

Headphones and Mix Engine FX can hide cancel. Transform to mono on the Master (or a Monitor bus). Toggle it. That is the Studio One mono-check. Broader habits: Studio One mono phase guide.

Delay align / sample nudge

Small delay on one path often fixes timing fights before any continuous rotator. Correlation meters can look safe while Transform mono still thins Mid. Headphones still lie.

Where Mixtool polarity stops

Pro Tools users hit the same leftover after Invert Phase: Pro Tools Invert / Time Adjuster. Bitwig Utility polarity is the same shape: Bitwig Studio 5.

Studio One habit (about 90 seconds)

  1. Transform to mono on Master or Monitor. Note what disappears (kick body, bass Mid, vocal chest).
  2. On dual paths: Mixtool Invert Left/Right (or Channel polarity) on one side. Re-check mono.
  3. If timing is the problem, delay nudge. Re-check.
  4. If a stereo bed still cancels by band, audition PHIXER VST3/AU. A/B with the plugin bypassed, still in Transform mono.

When PHIXER helps in Studio One

When NOT to use PHIXER here

Quick path: Studio One Transform mono → Mixtool polarity on dual paths → delay nudge → PHIXER only for leftover continuous L/R fights → Transform mono again before export.
